Detailing FAQ's

By Mike Ball

What is the difference between valeting and detailing?
Typical valeting services are low cost, quick services that generally do more harm than good. Detailing is the systematic cleaning, enhancing and protecting of all of the surfaces on a vehicle which ultimately leads to better results and longer lasting protection.

What is paintwork correction?
Most vehicles suffer from paintwork defects which are visible in direct light and these are generally swirl marks, light scratches in the clearcoat of the paintwork. Paintwork correction is the removal of these defects - using a machine polisher to remove 1 or 2 microns of paint so that it is re-leveled and can reflect light perfectly. Once the paintwork is defect free this means the paintwork can look it's best - High gloss and deep reflections. There are numerous detailers to choose from.

Why are your prices so expensive?
Detailing is a very in-depth process and takes between 1-2 days to fully detail a car. To add to this, Crystal Clear has spent years refining the detailing process and has also invested heavily in the latest equipment. When you consider this, the price isn't that expensive at all, especially when there is arguably no one better than Crystal Clear.

My car is brand new should I get it detailed, and if so, what would the benefits be?
Even brand new cars are delivered to the customer with paintwork defects and low levels of gloss. Crystal Clear has detailed many brand new cars meaning that the new car is protected and looking as good as it should. What do swirl marks and machine buffer marks look like?If you take a look at the treatments page, there is a before and after photographs of swirl marks in the paintwork. These are both defects in the clearcoat of the paintwork and as a result the light does not reflect perfectly off the panels.

If I have my paint corrected won't swirl marks and light scratches just appear again?
No, Crystal Clear will show you the best method and provide you with the correct products if needed to stop swirl marks appearing again.

The bodywork on my car is full of heavy swirl marks and fine scratches, can anything be done?
Yes, Crystal Clear can correct heavy swirl marks and fine scratches providing the clearcoat is deep enough to remove such defects.

Do you sell any of the products you use?
