We're delighted to announce a fantastic driver line up for the 2008 season.
Leyton Clarke
Corsa SR-R
Class B
Leyton has had a considerable amount of experience in racing despite only being 17 years old, no doubt helped by the fact that his father (Graham) owns one of the UK's most prestigious track day companies - RMA. This has meant that Leyton has been driving on track for longer than he has on the road!
All this experience has paid off and in 2007 Leyton was crowned SaxMax champion, a stunning achievement considering his tender age.
Leyton will be driving the Corsa SR-R in class B and even though this will the first time anyone in the World has raced this model we have high hopes that his inherent skill and strong commitment to car development will generate winning results.
Simon Shaw
Astra VXR-R
Class A
Simon works as an instructor for track day companies, so he is an example of the 'can't do, teach' analogy doesn't always apply. Simon has an excellent history of competitive driving, he won the Dunlop Race Academy in 2006 which preceeded an excellent season in the Ginetta Championship.
Last season Simon convincingly won the B class in the Dunlop SportMaxx Cup in his Renault Clio and he was a natural choice to drive our Class A Astra VXR-R. We hope to utilise his extensive track experience to develop the car into a winning package from the first race.
John Thorne
BMW M3-R
Class A
Founder and owner of Thorney Motorsport John has a typical club racing history. A couple of seasons in the Production BMW Championship, culminating in race wins lead into a mixed season racing Vauxhall VX220's and a late season entry into SportMaxx again leading to race wins shows a dogged commitment to the sport (ie he's mad).
A strong believer in the concept that motorsport is the perfect testing ground for road car tuning John will spend of the season developing all the cars for race and road tuning development as well as manage the team and try not to crash or come last.
John will be competing in the teams E46 M3-R in both the Dunlop SportMaxx and the Kumho BMW Championship (which will be interesting as both championships run at Pembrey on the same weekend!)
We're still keen to enter an Astra SRi into Class C for the championship so any funded drivers with an interest into entering should contact us directly.
