Thorney Motorsport Focus RS Handling Upgrades
Much has been commented on the RS handling as regards the Revo knuckle and the effect it has on the cars handling and there is no doubt the standard car moved the whole game forward in terms of dealing with torque steer. However as a race team we were pretty unimpressed with the overall handling of the car so have spent some time developing a variety of handling upgrades. We’ve tried a variety of lowering springs and suspension upgrades with the following recommendations.

TMS Fast Road Geometry Setup

When a manufacturer sets a car up they need to address a wide variety of owners, even for sports orientated drivers of a car like the Focus RS, however this compromise means that a lot of the cars handling is ‘wasted’ by catering to owners who are less interested in handling.
Drawing from our extensive experience in building and running race cars our enhanced geometry is designed to maximise fun from the car whilst at the same time recognising that tyre wear needs to be kept to a minimum.
The standard cars mechanical set up doesn’t allow for massive changes but we are still able to adjust toe and camber to minimise under steer and create an enjoyable yet predictable handling set up. All set up work is undertaken on our lazer alignment ramp utilising £25k worth of computerised set up equipment, a print out of the cars set up is provided with each upgrade, which takes about 2 hours. |

Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs & TMS Fast Road Geometry Setup
|
We’ve worked with Eibach for many a year and have never failed to be impressed by their attention to detail and diligence in development. Their Pro kit lowers the car by 20mm front and 15mm rear (hence the name) which is a good compromise for overall road handling and some track work. By running lower, stiffer springs the cars handling is improved by lowering the centre of gravity, greater limitation of bump and rebound effect creating better traction and less body roll. Ride is firmer but not to the extent of being uncomfortable.
