Insignia VXR - Performance Tuning

Thorney Motorsport Insignia VXR Performance Tuning
The Insignia is becoming one of those cars that people wake up to, aggressive looking but initially underwhelming in terms of performance, best advice is to give the car some miles, they are very tight from new and never make stated power, give them 3k miles and they will really make you feel it. Also, run decent high quality fuel, 95 octane in an Insignia is like feeding your pet lion pedigree chum, he’ll live but he wont roar much, Use Shell V Power, nothing else. We’ve written up our initial findings and development on the Insignia, it's here.
As a result of 6 months development, we are able to release our Stage 1 & 2 Performance Packages.

The Insignia is one of Vauxhalls first cars to run on the new Tech3 diagnostic software (the previous models all ran on the old Tech2) which as an authorised Vauxhall Repairer we have full access to (well we paid the thousands of pound it cost but you get my point) so we are able to fully inspect and check your car before we upgrade the ECU map. Having a full 4 wheel drive dyno we can fully measure the cars output (some tuners disconnect the cars Haldex system and run it in 2 wheel drive – hardly reflective of what the car actually does). After fully inspecting the vehicle and measuring its power we then upgrade the ECU map. Then via the dyno again we customise this map to the car to ensure its performing perfectly. Typical gains are around 25-30bhp but as stated it does depend on how many miles the car has and what fuel it is run on.

ECU Remap & TMS Manifold Back Exhaust +30BHP (350BHP Max) / +110Nm (510Nm Max)

The standard Insignia VXR does sound pretty good, from outside anyway but the higher build quality the car offers with better sound insulation the noise inside is a little understated. One aim of the new Thorney Motorosport Exhaust System is to generate a more sporty note without being too, well ‘chav’ about it. The end result is a full stainless system, with a lifetime guaranty. The real added gain from the exhaust is the extra power, by creating a straight through downpipe and widening the bore and smoothing the airflow of the system we can add 10bhp just from the system on its own, combine this with a more advanced map on the ECU and the gains can be quite dramatic. Mid range BHP is increased by 80bhp and torque by nearly 120lb – its a very very different car. Again the car is fully inspected and checked prior to any upgrade work, the map fine tuned to the car on the dyno and run again to ensure the car is in perfect order.
