Vectra VXR Chassis

By Thorney Motorsport

Be honest with yourself, do you just want a lowered look, better handling or the ability to take the car on track and fully use it but still get home without rattling your teeth out? Your choice of use of the car can save you money buying kit you might not need. Suspension tuning is more than just chucking a set of springs on and driving off into the sunset decide what level you want to go for and install it rather than just bolt it on.

Manufacturers specialise in compromise, they have to ensure that the cars they produce handle in such a manner as to be safe and exciting but with today's litigious environment they will always err on the side of safe, which lets face it… means boring.

A change in your cars geometry set up can literally transform the way it corners and handles at high speed. Using our own computerised lazer alignment rig, including specialist alignment ramp we can re-set your cars geometry to a more aggressive set up giving you better mid corner grip and less understeer, anything from fast road to full on track setups are possible.

We spend time with you before any work is undertaken to discuss what use the car is for to ensure a set up best suited to your needs, we've also written a guide to setting up adjustable suspension, see HERE

Suspension Stage 1 - Fast Road Setup

The standard geometry from Vauxhall is designed to be a compromise between safe handling and excitement and as with all manufacturers it veers to near to the safe side at the expense of excitement. We all want a safe handling car and we don’t compromise in this regard but there are certain adjustments we can make to the vehicles geometry that have an immediate and noticeable effect on how the car handles. By upgrading the geometry to our Fast Road settings understeer is noticeably reduced and the car is sharper to turn into bends (especially roundabouts), the car feels nimbler and more responsive. All the adjustments are carried out on our state of the art four wheel alignment rig on a customised flat floor lift, its the same set up we use to set up the race cars so you know its perfect. The process takes about two hours.

Suspension Stage 2 - TMS Lowering Springs

If all you need is a lowered look (and lets face it the Vectra does look a little high) then all you need is a lowered spring kit. Rather than just bolt on any old springs to the car (and thus upset its handling characteristics) we recommend the Eibach lowering kits. We've worked exclusively with Eibach to develop the best possible suspension upgrades for the Vectra VXR, these are unique to Thorney Motorsport.
