John Thorne started Thorney Limited back in 2002 but even before that he'd spent his life modifying and tuning cars. His first race car was a BMW E30 320 that he built himself and in that first season John got his first win. He was hooked.
Then follows a couple of decades of road car tuning and racing starting with BMW M3's adding the Vauxhall VX220 and VXR models, becoming appointed the VX220 Technical Expert for the UK, a brief turn in the BTCC, becoming a works operation for Yamaha and their Dakar T3 buggies and then in 2013 adopting McLaren.
Why McLaren? Because everyone said it was impossible, the manufacturer was too hostile to independents, the car was too complicated to work on and too technologically advanced for a mere mortal to develop. Well, red rag to a bull really and the fact is John loved the 12c and bought one.
After that follows 12 years of hard work, research, testing and development with the result that Thorney Motorsport are the largest and most well established McLaren Independent Specialist in the World.
We run our own warranty, our own McLaren service plan, we have dealers all over the World and work on over 500 McLarens a year, every year and even supply perfect used examples to select buyers.
