This is a very satisfying announcement for us as its something we’ve been trying for many years.
We’ve been building and rebuilding McLaren engines for over 10 years and in all that time we have worked with just one guy – Dave from Race Engine Build. Its fair to say that Dave is the number 1 McLaren engine builder in the UK and in those 10 years we have built or rebuilt nearly 35 McLaren engines – more than anyone else Worldwide.
This is no great surprise, Dave was one of the few people at McLaren who developed and built all the GT3 race engines, something he still does today, his depth of knowledge and experience in these engines, 3.8 and 4.0 is unsurpassed.
We have tried to hire him many times, I’ve offered money, women, drugs, everything and to Dave’s credit he’s always wanted to keep his independence as he has a whole range of other work he’s doing that doesn’t involve McLarens including GP bikes and some secret Mercedes work following his time with their F1 engine operation but finally he’s agreed to join us as our official engine partner and work exclusively with us for all the engine work.
In other words, if you want Race Engine Build to build your McLaren engine – you come to us from now on. (Yes, we do feel smug, sorry)
The good news is that this arrangement means we can now expand our range of engine build options to include a series of upgrades to different power and reliability options and we will soon be releasing these for all the McLaren models – all covered by our market leading warranty – that’s right, upgraded engines for enhanced power with a warranty. All of these engines and upgrades will be available to our trade customers as well.
Our own 570 and 720 cars are being rebuilt to offer owners to experience these exciting upgrades, both are now custom painted our Devil green (Porsche Viper green to you) so owners will be able to experience the depth of work we can now more widely offer.
Looking forward to offering more options for engine work for McLarens now that that Dave is fully on board.
